We didn't just run ghost hunts. We built the industry.
In 1999, we created the world's first commercial ghost hunting company. Over 18 years, we took more than 400,000 guests through the doors of over 300 of Britain's most haunted buildings. Abandoned asylums. Medieval castles. Victorian prisons. Plague hospitals. Underground tunnels that hadn't seen light in centuries.
Then we stepped away. We watched as the world caught up. And now, after years of research, planning, and an obsessive rethinking of what a ghost hunt should actually be — we're back.

What Makes Our Ghost Hunts Different
We’ve spent years investigating what works, what doesn’t, and what the ghost hunting industry has been getting wrong. The result is an approach that respects the history of paranormal investigation while pushing it forward.
Genuine historical research, not just atmosphere. Every location we investigate is backed by deep archival research. We don’t just tell you a building is haunted, we tell you who haunts it, why they’re still here, and what the historical record actually says.
Modern investigation methods alongside traditional techniques. You’ll experience the full spectrum of ghost hunting — from table tipping, glass divination, séances, and vigils through to structured EVP sessions, EMF detection, thermal imaging, and environmental monitoring using equipment you won’t find at other events. We blend the intuitive methods that have produced results for centuries with the data-driven approaches used by serious paranormal researchers worldwide.
Smaller groups. Longer access. No factory-line feel. We pioneered overnight ghost hunts in the UK. We know what makes the difference between an unforgettable night and a disappointing one: time in the building, the quality of your guides, and not being rushed through in groups of 40. Our events are designed around meaningful access and genuine investigation, not throughput.
Built by people who actually believe the question matters. We’re not entertainers dressing up fear as a night out. We’re investigators and historians who think the question of what happens in these buildings deserves to be taken seriously, and explored properly, with the right people beside you.
What to Expect on Our Ghost Hunts
If you’ve ever been on a ghost hunt in the UK, or looked into booking one, you’ll recognise the format below. It’s the structure we designed back in 1999 when we launched the world’s first commercial ghost hunting company. Today, virtually every ghost hunting company in Britain runs some version of it.
Here’s how a typical ghost hunt works:
Arrival and briefing
The evening begins with a welcome briefing where you meet the team, learn the history of the location, and get an overview of the night ahead. The equipment is explained, the techniques are introduced, and the specific areas of the building known for paranormal activity are outlined.
Guided investigation sessions
Guests work in small groups, rotating through different areas of the venue. Each session runs for approximately one hour and focuses on a different investigation method. Traditional techniques like séances, table tipping, and glass divination sit alongside tech-based approaches using EMF meters, spirit boxes, EVP recorders, and thermal monitoring equipment. Investigators guide every session, but guests are active participants, not spectators.
Free roam and lone vigils
After the guided sessions, guests revisit areas that interested them, conduct their own investigations, or test their nerve with a lone vigil in the dark. Equipment is available throughout and the team remains on hand for guidance.
Debrief and evidence review
The night closes with a group debrief where everyone shares experiences and reviews any evidence captured during the investigation.
Events typically run from evening until the early hours, lasting between five and eight hours depending on the venue. Refreshments are provided throughout. Guests should wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear, and bring a torch with spare batteries. You’re welcome to bring your own cameras, audio recorders, and investigation equipment. All guests must be 18 or over.
That’s the format we created. It’s a good one. It’s served hundreds of thousands of ghost hunters well, and it works. But it was designed in 1999. And in 2026, we’re changing it.
When we founded the original company under the name Fright Nights, we wrote the playbook that the entire UK ghost hunting industry still follows today. Now, as Original Ghost Hunting Company, we’re rewriting it. The new format keeps everything that makes a great ghost hunt work, but rethinks the structure, the methodology, and the experience from the ground up.
We’re not ready to reveal the details yet. But if you want to be among the first to experience what comes next, join the waitlist above.
The Kinds of Locations We Investigate
Over 300 haunted venues across the UK have hosted our events. We have relationships with heritage sites, private estates, and custodians of historic buildings that other companies simply don't have access to. Our new programme will include investigations at:
Haunted Prisons and Gaols
Britain’s historic prisons hold centuries of suffering, injustice, and unfinished stories within their walls. From Victorian gaols to medieval dungeons, these are among the most consistently active locations for paranormal investigation.
Abandoned Asylums and Hospitals
Former psychiatric hospitals and infirmaries are some of the most powerful environments for ghost hunting. The combination of emotional history, architectural scale, and sheer atmosphere makes them unlike anything else.
Castles and Fortifications
From Norman keeps to Tudor strongholds, Britain’s castles have witnessed battles, betrayals, executions, and centuries of human drama. Many of the country’s most well-documented hauntings originate within castle walls.
Historic Houses and Mansions
Grand country houses and manor houses often carry the most intimate and detailed ghost stories — generations of families, servants, secrets, and tragedy layered into every room.
Pubs, Inns, and Coaching Houses
Some of the oldest buildings still standing in Britain are its pubs and inns. Centuries of travellers, highwaymen, and clandestine meetings have left their mark — sometimes literally.
Underground Tunnels, Vaults, and Crypts
Beneath Britain’s streets lie networks of tunnels, burial vaults, and forgotten chambers. These subterranean spaces produce some of the most intense experiences in ghost hunting.
Churches, Priories, and Religious Buildings
From ruined abbeys to active parish churches, religious buildings carry a particular weight of history — and a particular type of haunting that many investigators find deeply compelling.
Ghost Hunting Equipment We Use
Our events provide access to a full range of professional ghost hunting equipment. You don't need to bring anything — though experienced investigators are welcome to use their own kit alongside ours.
Electromagnetic field (EMF) meters — including K2 meters and tri-field detectors — for detecting unexplained fluctuations in magnetic and electrical energy, widely associated with paranormal presence.
Digital audio recorders for capturing Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) — sounds, whispers, and voices that weren’t audible at the time of recording but appear on playback.
Spirit boxes and communication devices that sweep radio frequencies, giving potential entities a medium through which to form words and responses in real time.
Thermal imaging cameras for identifying cold spots and unexplained temperature variations — a classic indicator of paranormal activity.
Full spectrum and infrared cameras capable of capturing visual data beyond the range of human sight, often revealing anomalies invisible to the naked eye.
Motion sensors, vibration pods, and trigger objects placed in strategic locations to detect physical interaction from unseen sources.
SLS (Structured Light Sensor) cameras that map environments in 3D and can detect figures or forms not visible to the human eye.
We also employ traditional investigation methods including dowsing rods, pendulums, Ouija boards, writing planchettes, glass divination, and table tipping — techniques that have been used by investigators for over a century and continue to produce compelling results.
The Story Behind Original Ghost Hunting Company
Original Ghost Hunting Company was founded in 1999 as the world’s first commercial ghost hunting company. Over 18 years, we hosted more than 400,000 guests at over 300 of Britain’s most haunted locations, from crumbling asylums and medieval castles to plague pits and underground crypts.
We worked with television crews, film studios, and media from around the world. We pioneered the overnight ghost hunt format that every company in the industry now follows. We proved there was a massive audience for something that sat between entertainment, history, and genuine investigation.
In 2017, we stepped away. Not because we’d lost interest, but because we knew the format needed to evolve.
Now we’re back. With a quarter of a century of experience in paranormal investigation and historical research, a new methodology built on everything we’ve learned, and access to locations that will make even the most experienced ghost hunter nervous.
